I went to Myrtle Beach for Spring Break. My grandpa’s friend has a condo down there and he let us use it. It was a nice condo and a nice town.
The beach was beautiful, and probably would have been more beautiful if the weather had been nice. It was in the sixties and overcast all week, but we still managed to get to the beach a few times.
The town was nice, too. Although it was a resort town, it still had kind of a southern feel to it. Even though every other person you heard talked like you, I could definitely tell I was in South Carolina. We went to a couple of diners, and I had grits.
The best part was definitely The Institute for Greatly Endangered and Rare Species (T.I.G.E.R.S.). Instead of going on the expensive tour of their 50-acre preserve (and meeting their liger) we went to their small area in Barefoot Landing, a tourist area with lots of other stuff. T.I.G.E.R.S. had a large glass tank with adult tigers and was letting people get pictures with baby tigers and monkeys. The money goes to the preservation of the rare Golden Tabby Tiger. There are only about thirty left.
We finished our vacation with one last trip to the beach. I dug a big hole, and the lifeguard made me fill it in. I also took some photos; Myrtle Beach is very picturesque.
Despite the downsides, not to mention the mind-numbingly dull ride home, the trip was very much a success. I recommend Myrtle Beach to anyone who is able to go.
